SUCCESS

The achievement of our own personal desires. (Deepak Chopra)

Success or Failure is perhaps a culmination of all of our Perception’s, Experiences, Beliefs, Thoughts, States and Behaviour to date and certainly open to interpretation. Remember Thomas Edison and the light bulb!

When asked by a reporter for the New York times how it felt to have failed some 900 times in his attempt to create the electric light. Edison replied

Young man, I have not failed at all. I have successfully eliminated 900 ways that won’t work . When I have eliminated all of the ways that it won’t work I will be left with the one that will.”

Probably one of the most inspiring definitions of the difference between success and failure was delivered by a school teacher to a pupil at the end of a particularly difficult term. It went something like this…….

“SUCCESS IS FAILURE…………………………………… THAT TRIED ONE MORE TIME”

The success of any endeavour in life depends on an individual’s state of mind.

As the great American Psychologist William James once wrote:-

“Human beings, by changing the inner aspects of their minds, have the power to change the outer aspects of their lives.”

Success is not an accident that happens to some people and not to others. Success is created by certain ways of thinking and acting in life.

Continuous exposure to an environment that thrives on reinforcing our inadequacies and purveying negativity will only lead to more cynicism, scepticism, pessimism and depression.

In short, what I refer to as “social hypnosis” the continuous exposure to these negative attitudes, will ensure that the vast majority of people will continue to underachieve and fall a long way short of realising their true potential. As Henry Ford once said

“Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t your usually right!”

He was absolutely right. And this is where our journey begins.

Our focus is going to be one of positive self-belief, an abundance of confidence and a belief that we absolutely, positively do have the power to change our lives. For the sceptics among you who are now exclaiming “yeah, right, if it was as easy as that then why isn’t everyone doing it?  The truth is nothing is easy until you know how to do it.

The journey to achieving our full potential is one seldom undertaken simply because we have an irrational fear of the unknown or are afraid of failure or even worse still, because it is easier to do nothing. Let me tell you again

You absolutely, positively most definitely do have the power to change

So how do we break loose the shackles of this negative conditioning and enjoy a more fulfilling, optimistic and worthwhile lifestyle?

As you have already read earlier in this text, our thoughts, actions and results are innately linked.

However simply wanting to be successful is not enough. This desire has to be coupled with a strategy or plan. Preferably one that has been tried and tested in the real world!

With this in mind, that which follows isn’t rocket science, in fact it couldn’t be much simpler!

But it does emphasise the fact that even with the most effective strategy in the world, it will remain only that unless it is coupled with the action to make it   happen!

People are always blaming circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstance. The people who get ahead in this life are the people who go out and look for the circumstances they want and if they can’t find them…..They make them!”

George Bernard Shaw

So, how do we create the circumstances for our success?

Well, regardless of our own individual definition of success. Which will of course be based on our own unique set of  values, beliefs, experiences and subsequent interpretations.

The following strategy (Key to the Door) can be just as easily applied to losing weight and getting fit as it can to changing career or chasing that dream!

On completion, the question you really have to answer is, are you prepared to do what it takes to make it happen?
