In a practical context, all the Aerobic training in the world will not adequately prepare your body for the lifting and shifting that is required within your normal daily routine whilst minimising the risk of injury and maximising aesthetic appeal. Sometimes referred to as toning, strengthening or body building, resistance training does exactly that!
Improving muscle strength, size and endurance should be a fundamental component of any fitness regime whether your goal is to carry the shopping from the car or obtain aesthetic improvement. It is perhaps more easily achieved in a formal club environment because of the range of equipment available but is by no means the only way. Again with a little understanding of progression and overload together with a firm grasp of the importance of adequate nutrition anything is possible!
